Curriculum Vitae

Florian Meyer (*1976), known as Don’t DJ, is a composer, sound artist and experimenter. His work revolves around the exploration of polyrhythmic structures, non-Western tuning systems, and emergent sonic ecologies. Rejecting conventional four-on-the-floor rhythms, he seeks to create states of perceptual disorientation that challenges habitual listening patterns. His music unfolds as an intricate interplay of shifting, interlocking pulses that sound as an evolving system rather than a linear composition.

A member of Institut fuer Feinmotorik and founder of DISK Records, Florian is deeply influenced by cybernetics, fractal mathematics, and the self-organizing principles of natural systems. He employs generative compositional techniques, allowing rhythmic frameworks to evolve organically rather than being predetermined. His use of alternative tuning systems further breaks with the dominance of harmonic hegemonies, fostering a deeper engagement with microtonality and psychoacoustics.

Florian’s artistic practice is driven by a desire to subvert fixed patterns—both in music and in thought. His performances and releases invite listeners to navigate sonic environments where repetition never truly repeats, and structure arises from the interplay of interdependent elements. He has performed at institutions and festivals worldwide, from Berlin’s Berghain to Unsound Festival, from Salon des Amateurs to Sameheads, and regularly teaches workshops on rhythm perception, non-linear composition and his own experimental approaches.

By treating rhythm as an open-ended system, Florian proposes an alternative way of experiencing time: fluid, multi-directional, and constantly shifting. Through his music, he invites us to embrace complexity, to listen beyond expectation, and to question the very structures that shape our auditory perception.
